Choreography: Helge Letonja
"The Drift" is the second piece of the trilogy "DisPLACING Future", in which Letonja focuses on aspects of migration. Point of reference of "The Drift", a co-production with dancers from steptext dance project and Montréal Danse, is the ocean. The oceans separate and connect abandoned homes and longed for new shores. In the oceans the traces of those who leave and never reach their destination trail away. Using the allegory of a swarm as a community that promises shelter, the dance piece concentrates on the quest of the migrants. Currents, curls and turbulences become parameters for the choreography and references for the exploration of mechanisms of integration and exclusion.
At the same time the dancers carry their individual physical narrations on stage that will be designed by video artist Kyungwoo Chun. The contemporary composers Kunsu Shim and Gerhard Stäbler create the music for "The Drift", that will be recorded by the JugendEnsembleNeue Musik Rheinland-Pfalz/Saarland.
